Welcome to the Val Spicer Guest Designer Page

We have been proudly making Floral Foam for many years now, however, our biggest achievement is the creative florist community that we have built up. We have over 11,000 wonderful fans on our Facebook Page who actively share their floral creations and designs using Val Spicer Foam. Our ever popular ‘Florist of the Week’ on Facebook has seen many florists rewarded for showing off their creative skills on our page.

We launched Guest Designer to take that campaign one step further – we wanted to really push the skills of our community of florists, particularly as they are often looking for a challenge!

How does it work?

  • Volunteer florists are chosen at random on a regular basis
  • We send the florists a free bespoke 3D foam shape – we use challenging shapes and keep it a surprise!
  • The florist works their creative magic on the foam shape using whatever flowers and accessories they want
  • Once complete we share the pictures of finished piece and outline the design process used to create it
  • We showcase the florist, their work and their business on this site and our Facebook page
Promoting businesses – Sharing ideas and designs with budding florists – Creating a new age in floristry

Meet the Guest Designers

After 20 years in teaching I wanted a career change and I qualified from Bicton College last summer and just 6 months into the 2 year course I bought Ashburton Florist in February 2013….. a moment of madness, but with a lot of support from my college tutor I was able to make it work! I renamed the shop Teasels and completely refitted it 2 years ago and we have built up a reputation for quality flowers, with a great choice of flowers available.

I love being part of the town and we are becoming known for our window displays, having won the Carnival window competition last year.

I also love the funeral work side of floristry, far less stress than weddings and you are doing something special for a family at a very difficult time. When a customer allows us to be creative it makes it even more special.

Lucy Cole, who is completing her level 3 at Bicton this month, works with me part time and several fellow students have helped out during our busy times

Foam Tractor
Finished Floral Tractor
How I Made the Tractor…

We chose to use leaves as the main body to emphasise the shiny bodywork, Santini chrysanth for the inner wheels to reduce bulk and make it a nice bright yellow and delphinium petals in the windows to represent the sky through the glass. It took me about 3 hours (but I am new to all this!).

We had the tractor in our window for a Devon County Show display and everyone loved it.
